How many bands have I been in?  How many bands have I needed to look for a new member for?  If I had as many hit songs as I did answers to those questions, I'd be able to afford someone to ghost write this blog for me!  Here we are again, same time as last year too, looking for yet another bassist.  We had Stephen for the better part of a year, and let me tell you, he is a phenomenal bassist!  He just, unfortunately, wasn't the right fit for the band, and here we are again, looking.  Just another LA band story, right?

If you've ever been in a long term relationship then I'm sure you know all about what I'm going to talk about.  Th...

As you probably know by now, we’re writing a new record. So far, many people have asked me how it’s going and aside from my obligatory ‘good’ I didn’t really know how to answer. Mainly, that’s because writing a record like this is hard to explain. It’s very involved. Even a close producer friend messaged me: ‘yeah, that’s a daunting task.’ We had a dry erase board up at rehearsal, and quickly realized that one wasn’t enough, so we put up another, bigger board. We have homework every week. Yeah, you read that right. I really wanted to take a minute to think of an applicable analogy…as you might remember, I’m an analogy machine. So here it is…

Our goal is t...

I’ve been in a ton of bands and one thing absolutely never changes: the ‘hang’ is 80% of the gig. What I mean by that is a sense of team, that personal fondness, a certain degree of commonality, and genuine friendship are the linchpins in any successful band. Of course, we can all name a dozen bands with warring members that hate each other, but don’t get it twisted…at some point early on, they were the closest of friends.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that relationship has a direct impact on the overall productivity of a band. Not surprisingly, just about every band I’ve had the pleasure of being in has been quite productive. Modern Bronze is...

“And if you do something stupid, what then? It is sometimes a mistake to climb, it is always a mistake never even to make the attempt. If you do not climb, you will not fall. This is true. But is it that bad to fall, that hard to fail?

Do you know what happens when you dream of falling?

Sometimes you wake, and sometimes, yes, you die. But there is a third alternative.

Sometimes when you fall, you fly.”

Neil Gaiman, The Sandman

What a year. We really packed a lot into it, as a band and as individuals. The year’s end is making me reflective, introspective.

We were very ambitious this year. We recorded an album with a dream producer, Brian Virtue at an amazing st...

I don’t know if anybody reads this stuff. I suppose that doesn’t matter because being able to get it down on paper….or uhmm….onto the Internet means someday it will serve as a record of something significant that occurred in our past. Maybe just the four of us will look back at this or maybe nine quadrillion people will and some poor soul will have to translate this into Chinese. To that poor soul, I say: have fun with the words ‘bitchin’, ‘rad’ and ‘amazeballs’.

I’m an analogy machine. Ask anyone. Most of the time I draw analogies between band stuff and professional team sports stuff…usually football. As a band we’ve been preparing for next weekend all y...

We find ourselves in this strange, exciting, cool situation that none of us have ever been in before. Personally, I’ve got tons of band experience and that’s not me tooting my own horn or whatever…it just is what it is. I’m the guy that’s been in a band since ’89. No, I don’t want a cookie or a ribbon or anything, it’s just important that I frame my reaction to our current situation properly. My reaction, even after all my years is: HOLY SHIT!!!

Before I get into the details, you’ll have to forgive me for leaving a few of the key details out. Although I’m mostly unfazed by ‘celebrity’ it’s still important for me to protect their anonymity until the appro...

When it comes to being in a band, I have no idea how to give anything less than 100%. I have been in a band nearly every day of my life since 1989. The longest gap between bands was seven months. That’s not me tooting my own horn, by the way. It is what it is. That’s 26 years. And that’s well over half of my life. Over the span of roughly nine thousand four hundred and ninety days, my dedication has not wavered. I wrote long ago that my favorite thing in life is LOVE…and the thing I love more than anything else, is playing drums. At the risk of sounding cliché this statement describes me in the most basic sense: I drum, therefore I am.

A couple weeks ago, Corey asked us to share 2 albums that inspire us. Thinking about trying to narrow it down was beyond difficult, and felt almost impossible.

I grew up with hundreds of classic rock records. My father loves music, and although he isn't a musician, he has good instincts of what makes a song great. His taste is impeccable...Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Yes, The Beatles...and so many more. My childhood has a soundtrack to rival Woodstock. As a kid, my prize possession was a stereo with 2 tape decks—not only could I record songs off the radio, I could edit them and be my own DJ. Somewhere out there are a bunch of tapes with a passionate 8 y...
