How many bands have I been in? How many bands have I needed to look for a new member for? If I had as many hit songs as I did answers to those questions, I'd be able to afford someone to ghost write this blog for me! Here we are again, same time as last year too, looking for yet another bassist. We had Stephen for the better part of a year, and let me tell you, he is a phenomenal bassist! He just, unfortunately, wasn't the right fit for the band, and here we are again, looking. Just another LA band story, right?
If you've ever been in a long term relationship then I'm sure you know all about what I'm going to talk about. The ups and the downs; the good and the bad; the need for trust. Being in a band is just like being in a relationship. There are times when you need to trust that your bandmates aren't going to just run away when things get difficult. You need to be able to trust that they'll fight right along side you to make things work and to weather the storm.
I think that's where I got extremely lucky. With this band, they're like family. I trust that we're going to stick together and find another bassist and keep doing what we love: making music.
Last year in October, we had to start looking for a new bassist due to the departure of Adam. It took a few (grueling) months, but we did. This year has been mostly getting the new bassist up to speed, but more than that, it's been trying to find our new sonic identity with a new member of the band. Modern Bronze is, and always will be, a democracy. Because of that, it's impossible not to have your sound change a little with the addition of a brand new person's influences and style.
Where will we go from here? Not backwards. We are releasing a full length album that we're all so incredibly proud of that we're going to promote and promote and just shove down your throat!
What about a new bassist? Well, that'll go exactly like the last one did, or when I was brought into this band. We're not going to settle for someone. We are going to find the right fit, and if all goes well, they'll stick. Afterall, bands ARE like relationships, and unfortunately not every relationship ends up working. All we can do is keep trying. So are we just another LA story? I don't think so. I've said it before. I've been in a lot of bands before, but this one is different.
This one is Modern Bronze.
